Monster Ceilidh Band
Monster Ceilidh Band Present: their ‘Electro-folk’ spectacular feastures the award winning talents of Accordionist Amy Thatcher and gifted young Teeside Violinist Grace Smith. Their powerful and uncompromising style has brought them to the attention of many of the major UK and European Festivals. The band are on a crusade to bring a modern and non-patronising approach to ceilidh music, the traditional music of the British Isles.
Their experimentation with electronic beats, ‘simply stunning’ (Songlines), has its roots in the traditional but produces something innovative, contemporary and dynamic.
D’n’B producer, The Touch, works with electronic experimentalist and Bassist, David de la Haye, to augment the compositions of Amy Thatcher, Shona Mooney, Grace Smith and Octave Mandolin player, Kieran Szifris.
The result is a crucible for smelting riffs, massive chord progressions, intense electronics, folk tunes and a wide variety of styles from simply some of the UK’s finest folk musicians.
The band will release their 4th album ‘Mutation’ on Haystack records on 7 April 2017. It will feature 2 fiddle players; Grace Smith (Spree, The Rachel Hamer Band, The Lindie Quartet) and Shona Mooney (The Shee). The band will be touring in the Spring and playing many more Summer festivals to promote this.
