Monster Ceilidh Band

Monster Ceilidh Band Present: their ‘Electro-folk’ spectacular features the award winning talents of Accordionist Amy Thatcher and gifted young Teeside Violinist Grace Smith. Their powerful and uncompromising style has brought them to the attention of many of the major UK and European Festivals. The band are on a crusade to bring a modern and non-patronising approach to ceilidh music, the traditional music of the British Isles.

Their experimentation with electronic beats, ‘simply stunning’ (Songlines), has its roots in the traditional but produces something innovative, contemporary and dynamic.

D’n’B producer, The Touch, works with electronic experimentalist and Bassist, David de la Haye, to augment the compositions of Amy Thatcher, Grace Smith and Octave Mandolin player, Kieran Szifris. The result is a crucible for smelting riffs, massive chord progressions, intense electronics, folk tunes and a wide variety of styles from simply some of the UK’s finest folk musicians.

The band released their 4th album ‘Mutation’ on Haystack records in 2017 and toured the UK and played many Summer festivals to promote this.

Summer 2019 saw the band perform at many festivals, including; Bearded Theory, Kendal Calling, Camp Bestival & Boomtown Fair.

COVID-19 sadly forced the cancellation of Monster Ceilidh Band’s  ‘Yampy’ Tour in 2020, but Spring 2022 will see the release of their ‘Monster Ceilidh Band: Live Sessions’ album. They are also in the studio putting the finishing touches to their 5th album and have dates planned during 2022 to promote this.

‘An unbeatable live experience.’

‘What a fabulous day! Magical Sounds must be one of the most atmospheric tents on the circuit and when Monster Ceilidh Band come out to play then all is well with the world. In this company, to rate them as one of the sets of the festival is praise indeed. An absolutely stonking crowd reaction with the whole tent bouncing – this is what Bearded is all about. Accordionist Thatcher was absolutely on the button and excelled amongst splendid musicians, and the band’s unique mix of beats underpinned by a folk backdrop was truly excellent.’
